About Adoptables Rules by Whispered-Time About Adoptables Rules by Whispered-Time
I'm submitting this to my own gallery AND to my adoptables group because I think this is important. Downloading it will give you the full view.

I've circled in red the rules 3 and 4 from the first screenshot and then talked about them in the comment in the second screenshot.

Guys, making adoptables is fun. And whether you're an adoptable MAKER, or just a BUYER, you still need to know this.

A lot of people who start out with just buying and adopting end up thinking it would be fun to make their own adoptables, so this is my friendly advice to you:

Do NOT make rules that are unrealistic, especially if you expect people to pay with a real currency.

This is an example of an unrealistic rule. "No piercings" it says.

I understand and love natural adoptables, but as such, she's still asking points for these and if you're going to ask points for adoptables, you need to give the buyer the freedom to do what they want with it.

DO NOT THINK that points are not a real currency. They ARE a real currency. 80 points is equal to 1(ONE) United States Dollar.

Given that that means 17 points isn't much in money, but it's still real money, one way or the other.

If I ask for points for you to buy an adoptable, legally I make sure you know that it is YOURS once you buy it. On all of my sheets I tell you this:

Once you buy the adoptable it is YOURS. You do not have to credit me for its design(though the first time you use it, it would be nice), and you can change it however you want, be it colors, species, adding tattoos or piercings, whatever.

I also don't pre-dispose adoptable sheets to certain genders. At #IttyBittyCity, which I run, there are ways to tell males from females but on adoptable SHEETS on my personal account, I never specify gender because that is also the buyer's choice.

Some people also try to pre-dispose these adoptables to certain personalities, instead of letting you come up with your own. I don't approve of this because I want to come up with the personalities myself as a buyer.

I am a buyer AND maker of adoptables so I've seen both sides of this.

Guys, stop making ridiculous rules for these adoptables or people won't want to buy them. They are legally inclined to do whatever they want with their characters, so let it go and let the buyer be happy with whatever THEY want to do.

Whatever makes the buyers happy is what you want to do, and you want to make sure they'll love and take care of their adoptables to the fullest extent possible.

:bulletblue:I'm hoping that more people will see this because I think this is important, so if you would like to share this with people, please do because I feel this is important to know.:bulletblue:

i agree with most of all you said i mean come on...really?! you can't add accessories...how stupid is that? might as well not even get any then if you can't even add clothes or anything:P but i know what you mean in my group the adopt is yours but i own the species and what not and you're not allowed to make your own designs but yeah! man some people can just be...utterly stupid LOL<3 I actually just went in and revised my adopt rules too cuz i think it is a bit outrageous to credit someone every single time you create art @_@ though sometimes i get confused but just adoptables and actually buying the species with that set design :C

^ is a symbol pointing upward at the person's statement who appears above theirs, which means that they agree to everything and don't need to reply anything else because the other person said it all. So when you overdo it like I did, it means you took the words right from my mouth. xD

I agree with you so much. I can't adopt ANYTHING from places like Point-Adopts because basically all the designs that interest me say that I need to credit the owner EVERY time the character makes an appearance and I'm not allowed to change ANYTHING, like, not even give them accessories. .n.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ My problem with that crediting thing as well is that I often forget who GAVE me the pet so I can't credit someone I've forgotten. :/

oh god i've seen some pretty stupid rules, still bought what I wanted too though cause i personaly dont give a flying fuck if they get pissed at me. the rules that bugged me were that i wasn't allowed to breed them ,which i absolutly love doing. i couldn't kill them, for me thats hard cause i write short stories that have characters i get in them and lots of them end up dying or the sake of the plot and what not(i dont post them usuall...rarely finish one either cause they get long then i lose the drive to write and what not). the thrid was.....well crap i can't remeber it but i 'm pretty sure there was another stupid one x3

oh and the person was calling the wolves there own species they made, i think their tail was supossed to have a mouth or something like that. oh and the person was calling the marking on all their hips cutie marks cause the person was a mlp fan. not to mention the made a bunch of recolors of hte one i bought and changed its "cutie mark" even made a custom one for someone that was a recolor that was cheeper than mine.

*nod, nod* Your statements are totally fair!

The only thing that doesn't belong to IoR buyers is the SPECIES which they purchased! Masterson, for instance, belongs to ~StephenKingFTW. Hanatra don't. But if she wanted to draw Masterson in a thong and tutu, that's her prerogative. I own the original art, but her character is hers to do what she likes with.

No piercings...psh! What a load of bunk!! What if I want an adoptable based on me?! I have six!!

fff pretty much XD I just think the rules are ridiculously stupid, that's all. And this more applies to adoptable SHEETS instead of groups like IBC where you can tell gender differences and they're totally pre-made, but it's honestly just stupid in my opinion, how they try to enforce rules about someone ELSE'S characters. :/

I was introduced to adoptables by #MCAdoptables. XD I can see how adoptable sheets have their applications, though - particularly if you're after an OC!

I read a rule that said you couldn't change the length of a character's hair! What if you're using them in a comic or story or something and they get a hair cut? :D Adoptable rules annoy me sometimes!

I agree with this, however this is not always the thing all adopts. I personally have an virtual kennel here in DA and in the Kennel life the animals need to stay the same and have the same gender they have from the start~ Other adopts that arnt kennel related dont need these type of rules... unless their for some rp group

So basically just random character adopts shouldnt have these outragious rules but vitural kennels and adopts for rp groups should because they are made to be specific characters and have specific Designs and genders.

Yes well that's what I was saying in the Artist's Comments. As the owner of :iconittybittycity:, an adoptable group, I see what you're saying. This is applying to just every day adoptable SHEETS that have several on them. :)

A rule on an adopt sheet I bought from said that if the design wasn't used, it would be taken back/refunded. What if someone refuses? It's legally their property once they pay.

I personally use characters more in my head than on paper.

I agree, and a problem with the "if it isn't used I'll take it back" rule, is that a lot of people DO use their adoptables on paper at home, and either don't have a scanner, a program to edit in, either, or they just don't have the time to upload it and fix it. These people ARE using their adoptables and just because they don't put them on this one website, that doesn't mean anyone has a right to take them back once the person has paid. My policy is that if you don't want the adoptable anymore, tell me and I'll refund your money like you would for an item from a store with a return policy. I've seen several people take back adoptables but not refund the buyers and give their money back, which isn't fair in my opinion.

And I, too, use my characters in my thoughts a lot more than people seem to realize. I come up with really cool backgrounds and stories and I visualize it perfectly in my head, I just don't ever write or draw whatever I've thought.

They actually refund full price, but still...
I have a scanner, but I prefer not to scan my lined-paper school doodles. Another rule was that you can't use bases/body templates if you draw a picture. :iconwthplz: I found an excellent character body template for character refs. It was only a sketchy basic shape of a body, but it was perfect for character designing.

I have a lot of ideas, but don't care for recording them. They're in my head. Probably better that way.

That's actually kind of ridiculous. A looooot of people use bases and body templates because they can't get the anatomy right. I do that a lot with my human based drawings because I can't perfect my human anatomy at all D:

I wouldn't listen to that because it's legally yours. Go ahead and use the template if you want and if the person gets all pissy tell me and I'll tell them why they have no right to, no worries. :) I'll back you up on that.

Haha yeah most of my ideas make me seem insane so I just keep them to myself >.>

Understandable if it's an animal, since you just have to scribble a bit on a lineart. But humans...
I seriously found a template- no face, not too much detail. Perfect for character refs.

I will~

I totally agree with you. Most of my adoptables are form 1-5 really. It isn't quite fair that a few people have to pay at least 100 points for a simple adoptable. Well it's my opinion. :I

I understand expensive prices for adoptables that are WORTH that much, but it takes a lot for an adoptable to be worth 200 or 300 points, and you have to have put in a lot of time and effort really trying to make them cool looking. If someone makes really cool adoptables for really really cheap prices, I usually tell them to actually up the prices because they're worth more than the maker is charging, but when rules like this are enforced, in my opinion the adoptable's value will drop to nothing because I don't have the freedom to use it as I want to.
